Spikes' Super Student Reading Program 2018

The baseball reading program ended with a school record breaking total!  Our students (most under 7 years old) started reading 4 weeks ago and have met all their goals.  First, they read 1,000 books to earn a free baseball ticket to the Joliet Slammers.  Then they read 500 more to earn a book for their classroom.  They reached 2,000 books and earned a very fun (and loud!) school kick ball assembly.  The staff "Shananigans" team came close, but the student team "Green, Mean, Reading Machine" pulled off the win!  All were proud of our students, as they reached their final goal during the 3rd week...but they wanted to read more!!  They read 1,420 more books!!  The total amount read: 3,420  This is a school record...can't wait to see how many they read next year!!!

Walsh March News - 2018

The March newsletter is filled with many exciting things!  Starting after Dr. Seuss week, we will continue to 'march' along through kindergarten registration, our Slammer reading program, the Family Movie Night, our St. Baldricks fundraiser and still taking time for our much-needed spring break!  Take a look and see what your child is doing in their classroom, too!

Last call for yearbooks!  Orders must be placed online by March 12, 2018.  If you have any questions, call the school office.

Registration packets for current students will be going home on Friday, March 16th.  If you have any questions, please contact the school office.  Keep in mind that a quick turn around on the paperwork is necessary to plan for next year.  Registration fees can be paid anytime before May 18th to receive the $10 discount.  Details will be included in your packet.

2018/19 Kindergarten Registration

Kindergarten registration for Will County School District #92 (Walsh, Reed, Ludwig and Oak Prairie) will be held at Walsh School, 514 N. MacGregor Road, Lockport, on Wednesday, March 7th and Thursday, March 8th.  Parents with children who will be five years old on or before September 1, 2018, should register according to the following schedule:

March 7 – 9:30-11:00 a.m.   Morning Hours
March 7 – 1:00-2:30 p.m.     Afternoon Hours
March 8 – 4:30-7:00 p.m.     Evening Hours

The items you must furnish at the time of registration are your child’s government issued birth certificate (no other birth certificate will be accepted) and three (3) proofs of residency.  The following will be accepted as proof:  One from this category:  The most current real estate tax bill, signed lease, closing statement from the purchase of a home within one year, or a notarized 3rd party affidavit (provided by the District) indicating shared housing and that the child lives in the home.  Two from this category:  Driver’s license, gas or electric bill, public aid card, voter registration card, home/apartment insurance certification, bank/credit card statement, or automobile registration.  Registration packets may be picked up the week prior to registration to save some time, but please call the office first to check on availability.

You will be asked to complete registration forms, and pay a registration fee (or make payment arrangements).  A $10.00 deduction will be given to those families who pay at registration or before May 18, 2018.

In order for your child to be admitted to kindergarten, a dental, eye, and physical examination with current immunization information is also required.  Forms will be distributed at registration or you may pick one up in the office prior to the registration dates.  You must turn in all medical forms by the first day of school, or contact the nurse with an explanation.

No student will be officially registered unless a birth certificate and all necessary residency information is complete.  All medical forms are needed by the first day of school, but NOT needed in order to register.  Walsh School hosts a full day kindergarten program which runs from 8:50a.m.-3:30p.m.  Please contact Walsh School or the District office should you have any questions regarding registration.
