October 2026

D92 Families and Staff,

By now, you have probably felt that crispness in the air, or maybe you've already enjoyed the first pumpkin spiced treat of the season! Either way, fall has officially arrived, and it is hard to believe how quickly the 2026–27 school year is moving.

There have already been so many wonderful moments across our schools this year. One of the greatest joys of being a superintendent is having the opportunity to see the connections being built each day between our students and their teachers, support staff, principals, and one another.

From high fives and hugs to milestones, accomplishments, and everyday moments that may seem small but mean so much to a child, our Bulldogs continue to remind us what makes our schools special.

There are always challenges in a school district, and this year is no different. During challenging moments, our commitment to our students and to providing them with a positive, safe, and meaningful school experience remains at the center of our work.

I am grateful to the many people who come through our doors each day ready to support our students and help them learn, grow, and thrive.

There is so much good happening in our schools, and I am excited to continue watching our Bulldogs learn, lead, grow, and make memories throughout the year. Thank you for being part of our D92 family and for keeping our students at the heart of all that we do.

September Was Full of Fun and Connection in D92!

There were so many amazing moments that took place in our schools over the past month, but none were quite as colorful as the Oak Prairie Color Splash and Foam Party.

In case you missed it, check out the highlight video below!

reading buddies

Reading Buddies at Walsh

Some of our amazing Walsh staff have once again partnered with the Lockport Woman’s Club as we continue year two of our Reading Buddies program!

Each week, volunteers come to Walsh and join our classrooms to read, learn, and spend time with our Bulldogs. These special relationships provide our students with additional support while building meaningful connections with members of our community.

Students of the month

September Students of the Month at Reed

These students were selected by their teacher or another Reed staff member for showing RESPECT throughout the month of September!

The students were able to celebrate with lunch with the Principal where they were able to connect with each other and Principal Golden.

Congratulations to these Reed Bulldogs on modeling what it means to be respectful!

Royal Learning at Ludwig

Fourth grade students prepared for their CKLA unit, “Europe’s Middle Ages”, by creating individual student crests.

They decorated crowns, explored unit vocabulary, and built background knowledge, excitement, and anticipation for kicking off their unit of learning.

First aid techniques

Life Saving Techniques at Oak Prairie

Physical Education classes at Oak Prairie Junior High recently partnered with the local fire departments and first responders to train students in emergency procedures.

They were able to practice with CPR Manikins and learned how to take action if someone is choking.

Board update

Teacher Contract Negotiations: Facts & Updates

Will County School District 92 Board of Education and the teachers’ union are currently negotiating a new collective bargaining agreement.

A Tentative Agreement was signed on Sept. 18 by both negotiating teams, which was recently voted on by union membership. On Sept. 28 the Union shared the results of a vote that was held on the tentative agreement. The membership voted against ratifying the agreement.

The District remains dedicated to reaching a fair agreement that reflects our shared commitment to student success, supports staff, and maintains fiscal responsibility for our taxpayers and the long-term financial stability of the school district.

Updates, proposals, and documents have been shared on the Teacher Negotiations page on the district website.

Parent Volunteers needed

Parent Volunteers Needed for Parent Teacher Advisory Committee

We are looking for D92 parents who would like to be part of an important conversation about our schools and our students.

The Parent Teacher Advisory Committee brings parents, teachers, and district staff together to share perspectives and ideas related to student discipline, school safety, bullying prevention, and creating a positive and supportive school environment.

It is an opportunity for families and staff to work together and help us continue to make D92 a place where every student feels safe, supported, and ready to learn.

If you are a D92 parent who is interested and available to participate, please join us on November 5 from 2:30–4:00 p.m. at the District Office.

Please email Diana Goldstein at dgoldstein@d92.org if you are interested in joining the committee.

Thank you principals

October is National Principals Month and Oct. 19-24 is Illinois Principal Appreciation Week

Great principals see potential everywhere — in students, staff, schools, and communities. Because October is National Principals Month, we are excited to celebrate the leaders who do so much for our staff and students and make the four schools of D92 such a special place!

Watch the D92 Facebook Page this month as we will be sharing a bit more about our building leaders each week, starting with Principal Megan Urban at Walsh.

D92 Team Spotlights - Instructional Coaches

Supporting Teachers in Their Craft - Spotlighting the D92 Instructional Coaches

When you think of career paths in schools, you probably think about teachers and principals, along with media specialists and paraprofessionals. There is a position that is new to Will County D92 this school year that is making a big impact on teaching and learning, our Instructional Coaches!

Instructional Coaches are a vital part of improving student learning outcomes by providing targeted support grounded in data and classroom observations to allow teachers to continue to grow in their work. Their goal is to make a positive and meaningful impact on all students' educational experiences within the classroom.

Ahead of National Instructional Coaches Appreciation Day on Tuesday, Oct. 6, we reached out to our coaches for their perspective on their role and what they are bringing to the table this school year.

The D92 Instructional Coaching Team is a new addition to the district this year, but with some familiar faces. Left to right: Theresa Fox, Emily Sieracki, Elizabeth Williams, Allie Fayman

Porter Stadium updates

Updates from Lockport Township High School

Our friends at Lockport Township High School have asked us to share some important updates on new guidelines taking effect at Porter Stadium.

The most important piece for our families is that any junior high students or younger students must be accompanied by a parent/guardian or chaperone and remain with them throughout the event. Parents/guardians are responsible for supervising the students they bring to LTHS events. Visit their website to learn more.

Thank you for your partnership and spirit!
