Magazine Drive - Reed School participates in the annual District 92 magazine drive. QSP, a division of Readers Digest, is the company with whom we work. The sale begins August 23rd and ends September 6th. Profits go directly back to the students in materials, assemblies, and activities. Reed School has always led the way in fundraising for this magazine drive. Prizes are presented to the students who become involved in the sale. Magazine renewal can be done through this fundraiser. Your help is appreciated!

Fire Prevention Week – Fire Prevention Week is October 10-14.  We will practice leaving the building in an orderly fashion as the fire department monitors our evacuation. The Northwest Homer Fire Department will give an assembly in October to small groups throughout the day to remind students of fire safety at school and at home. The department will also bring the Safety House back to Reed School during October. We are extremely lucky to have such excellent safety instruction from our local fire department.

Red Ribbon Week – Red Ribbon Week will be celebrated the week of October 24-28. During this week we focus on character education activities, as well as, drug free education.

Family Literacy Night - The third annual Family Literacy Night will be held this year on November 17th, 6-7:30. There will be many activities designed to encourage reading and literacy for the whole family.

Tree Lighting Ceremony - The sixth annual Reed School Christmas Tree lighting ceremony will take place on December 2, 2011, 7-8. Come join us prepare and celebrate the holiday season.

Santa Secret Workshop - The Parent Faculty Association also sponsors the annual Santa Secret Workshop at Walsh School in December. Children can meet with Santa and do some of their own Christmas shopping.

Lymphoma and Leukemia Association - Pennies for Patients - We will continue to support this worthwhile organization that has provided assistance to families dealing with these two diseases. Children will be asked to drop pennies and other change into a canister provided by the association during 100-Day week in February.

100 Day – Reed School celebrates the first 100 days of school. The major focus of this celebration occurs with our 2nd graders, but the whole school recognizes the day and students can be seen walking around dressed as if they were100 years old.

St. Jude Mathathon- St. Jude Mathathon is an alternate year March event that provides funds for the Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. We have raised over $100,000 for St. Jude since Reed School reopened in 1994. The children receive prizes for their efforts and enjoy working math problems in their math Fun Books and CD’s.

Music Concerts – Mrs. Riopell works with students to present an annual concert every year in each grade level. Our 2nd grade performs a Winter Concert and 3rd grade performs a Spring concert.

Fine Art Festival/Career Day – On alternate years, students participate in our Fine Arts Festival or Career Day exposing them to a wide variety of professionals.

Assembly programs related to character education and our curriculum will be offered throughout the year.
Our Parent Faculty Association sponsors the majority of these assemblies.
