Reed School News
July 7, 2008

Welcome back to Reed School! I would like to introduce myself as the new principal of Reed School; I am Mary Jasinski. I would like to take this opportunity to share some background on my family and my tenure at Will County District 92. My husband, Jerry, and I live in Lemont. We have three grown children who have spent part of their early educational career in District 92. My sons Bryan, 24, and Matthew, 22, are Purdue University graduates, and my daughter Allison, 21, is a senior at DePaul University. I have been involved with District 92 since moving to Lockport in 1988. I started as a parent volunteer actually working on the committee to re-open Reed School, I taught special education at Ludwig, served as District Diagnostician and Facilitator, and most recently I have been Assistant Principal at Oak Prairie.

I know from meeting with the teachers, administration, parents, and your past principal, Bill Barney, that Reed School is a school committed to excellence. Academic achievement, character development, commitment to safety, strong community relations, and a sense of belonging are clearly high priorities at Reed. Please be assured of my commitment in honoring these accomplishments and my hope of contributing to an even greater success in the future.

In the spirit of building community, let me invite each of you to the Open House session being held upon our return to school. Our 2nd grade Open House will be held Monday, August 25th, and 3rd grade’s Open House will be Tuesday, August 26th. The hours for both are 7-8 in the evening. We will begin Open House in our gym with a staff introduction and some important notes for parents as students begin their school year. Just a reminder, our first day of classes is on August 22nd and it will be a shortened day, 11:20 dismissal. We begin the year with the annual fundraiser, our magazine drive, and your students will be receiving all of the information and materials related to this fundraiser at an assembly on August 26th, so please be on the look out for this information.

Again, I want to welcome all of you to what we hope will be an outstanding school year. Please do not hesitate to stop by the office or to give us a call if we can assist you in any way. Best wishes to you and your family, and “Go Rockets!’

Sincerely,
Mary Jasinski
