Oak Prairie Junior High School is located at 15161 South Gougar Road, in an unincorporated section of Homer Township. Oak Prairie Junior High School opened its doors to students for the first time in August 2002. The school then became one of four elementary schools operating in the Will County School District 92 boundaries. At Oak Prairie, teachers enthusiastically promote academic excellence, individual responsibility and appropriate social skills. Our staff prepares students for a smooth transition to the high school level. These goals and ideas would not be possible without the professional dedication of a tireless staff. Oak Prairie Junior High School is proud to have such a staff.

The academic day at Oak Prairie is structured around an eight (8) period class day. During these eight periods, every student has five (5) core subjects (Reading, Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies) and one P.E./health class. All sixth grade students participate in a mini course rotation class (Computers, Nutrition, Music and Art) and also select one elective class (Connections, Choir, or Band). Seventh and eighth grade students have two elective class choices; Band, Choir, Digital Art, Art II, 3D Art, Synergy Lab, Music Technology, Digital Applications, Digital Media, Discovering Languages & Cultures, Spanish I and Spanish II. Additionally Oak Prairie offers REI (Regular Education Initiative) classes in order to accommodate our diverse learning population. We offer cross grade level instruction in elective classes only.

Oak Prairie Junior High School is especially proud of its Special Services programs. We have instructional, resource and special education classes to aid our special needs population. The Will County Sheriff’s Department also provides our seventh graders with a seven-week G.R.E.A.T. (Gang Resistance Education and Training) program. These programs along with our ELL (English Language Learners) help all students to succeed in school.

Before and after school programs include but are not limited to sports, music lessons, tutoring, S.O.S. (Student Opportunity to Succeed), and art club. For more information on programs at Oak Prairie, please consult our web site under "School Information" and then go to "Special Services/Programs."

Much effort goes into the successful education of a child. One component of that process is a strong, caring school system with dedicated loving teachers. We have that at Oak Prairie Junior High School but without the extraordinary parents and community, our job would be made near impossible. We are grateful for the time and commitment our parents and community members show to further the educational process of all our students. To the District 92 Foundation, PFA, Athletic Association and other such support groups we can only say, “Thank You”!

If you have any questions about any of our programs, please call or e-mail me at Oak Prairie Junior High School, 815-836-2724.

Sincerely,

Mark Murray, Principal
