Each year Ludwig School takes part in a variety
of events and special projects to help enrich our students curriculum.
We kick off each year with our annual Magazine Drive and Book Fair.
This year our Book Fair sales exceeded $10,000.
Ludwig School has several Spirit Days each year in which the students
(and faculty) participate to show class pride. Examples are sports
day in which students wear hats, jerseys, etc. of their favorite
teams or slipper day where students bring to school the crazy slippers
to wear around school. The winning class is offered a pizza party.
We proudly promote Character Education each month by designating
a important value such as: Esteem, Courtesy, Responsibility Caring
and Sharing, Goal Setting, Honesty, Health and Prevention and Conflict
and Feelings. Each class is responsilbe to come up with a poster
and theme which is then displayed in the halls of Ludwig. At the
end of the year we have a contest and vote for best poster.
During the important holidays of the year, the students celebrate
with class parties for Halloween, Winter Break,
and Valentines Day.
Throughout the year the students are offered an opportunity to
learn about money through our Banking days. Students can bring
in money to deposit into their own checking account. We are able
to offer this through the Community Bank of Lemont.
With help from the Lockport Police Dept., the 5th Graders here
at Ludwig go through D.A.R.E (Drug and Alcohol Resistance Education)
with a special graduation ceremony for the 5th graders each year.
Our Red Ribbon Week activities help raise student awareness on
the dangers of drug use. Among the various activities is the door
decorating contest. Students create a theme and decorate their
classroom door and the winner gets a ice-cream treat!
Ludwig offers a variety of special activites such as Young Authors
and our annual Spelling Bee.
Each year our 4th graders partcipate in a Winter and Spring Concert
and sing to parents and the 5th graders. This is organized by our
Music Department.
We are proud of our involvement with the community and annually
particpate in a food drive. On our 100th Day in February our food
drive items are donated to local Lockport Food pantries.
Our Physical Education department sponsors the "Jump Rope for
Hearts" with donations going to the American Heart Association.
We also particpate in the St. Jude's Math-a-thon with proceeds
going to St. Jude's Hospital.
Throughout the year we have several Art exhibits from our Art
department when we display the fine works of our students.
A very popular event amongst the students is our annual Career
Day. Volunteers come into the school and discuss their many different
careers with the students. Last year we were happy to have an Engineer,
Weatherman, Illnois State Police Crime Scene Investigator, Nurse
and Scientist amongst others.
Our year culminates with "Game Day." Students participate in activities
and games for an entire day. The day includes: indoor activities,
games, lunch, DJ and Dance, outside sports activities, movies, crafts
and more!
