Welcome to Ludwig School!

Our school is located in the north part of downtown Lockport, Illinois. Ludwig is a 4th and 5th grade building for District 92. At Ludwig, our teachers promote high academic standards for achievement, emphasize student responsibility and create an environment where appropriate social behavior is expected.
Our projected enrollment for the 2007-08 school year is 450 students. We have nine fourth grade homerooms and nine fifth grade homerooms this year.  English, math, reading, spelling, social studies, character education, science, and structured play are taught by each of the grade-level teachers. Students also participate in pullout programs for physical education/health, music, art, and library. We offer support programs such as: ESL (English as a Second Language), Resource and Instructional classes, Title 1 Reading, and Academically Talented classes. The “Accelerated Math” program is used in all classrooms and provides personalized math instruction for every child. Our “Child Lures Prevention” program is very successful and has become a permanent program at Ludwig.
To encourage home-school communication and organization skills, we have an assignment book program. Weekly raffles and monthly grand prizes are awarded for the completion of homework and use of the school assignment book.
There is an opportunity for 5th graders to audition for our 5th grade band. The 5th graders also participate in the D.A.R.E
(Drug, Alcohol, Awareness Education) during the second semester. Students who need additional academic support may choose to attend our S.O.S. (Student Opportunity to Succeed) program after school.
Ludwig students show their community support each year by participating in a variety of activities. Our students organize a food drive for local food pantries, collect used reading books for children in needy schools, raise donations for the American Heart Association through Jump-Rope-for-Hearts and for St. Jude Children’s Hospital through a math-a-thon. Each spring we organize a career week when students examine their personal career interests. Guest speakers from our community then share their successes in a building wide celebration.
Ludwig School strives to create a supportive environment where all students can be successful. This success is directly related to our parental support and the dedication of our entire staff and community. We look forward to a great school year.

Sincerely,
Carol Koch
Principal
