Our school is located in the north part of downtown Lockport, Illinois. Ludwig is a 4th and 5th grade building for District 92. At Ludwig, our teachers promote high academic standards for achievement, emphasize student responsibility and create an environment where appropriate social behavior is expected.
Our projected enrollment for the 2011-12 school year is 405 students. Our Media Center creates an environment where literacy appreciation and the skills of research rally, to create an environment of new discoveries rich in knowledge. English, math, reading, spelling, social studies, character education, science, and structured play are taught by each of the sixteen grade-level teachers. Students also participate in pullout programs for physical education/health, music, and art.
We offer support programs such as: ELL (English Language Learners), Resource and Instructional classes, Title 1 Reading, and Academically Talented classes. Our R.T.I. model – Response to Intervention “integrates assessment and intervention within a multi-level prevention system to maximize student achievement and to reduce behavior problems. With RTI, schools identify students at risk for poor learning outcomes, monitor student progress, provide evidence-based interventions and adjust the intensity and nature of those interventions depending on a student’s responsiveness, and identify students with learning disabilities.” (www.rti4success.org)
Additionally, there is an opportunity for fifth graders to audition for our 5th grade band. This year we will continue our 4th and 5th choir. Our fifth graders also participate in the G.R.E.A.T. (Gang Resistance Education and Training) during the second semester, and the Tribune Stock Market program. Ludwig has also received several awards for our student-recycling program. Students who need additional academic support may be invited to attend our S.O.S. (Student Opportunity to Succeed) program after school.
In addition to academics, our students reach out to the local and world community. Each year our students organize a food drive for the Lockport food pantries, collect new and slightly used books for Book Worm Angels, jump rope in the Jump for Heart program through the American Heart Association and support Earth Day environmental projects. In the past years, our students have collected Teddy Bears for children in crisis, raised money for natural disasters and participated in the St. Jude Children’s Hospital math-a-thon. Each spring Ludwig school celebrates varied careers by inviting community members to talk to our students about their personal careers. Our staff provides a wonderful luncheon for all involved as a thank you.
Ludwig School strives to create a supportive environment where all students can be successful. This success is directly related to the dedication of our entire staff, parents and educational community. We know it will be another great year at Ludwig!
Welcome back!
Sincerely,
